A Hero’s Funeral

Hear the thundering blast and the burning bullet fly by, the constant reminder of the already fallen lay nearby. Render the final salute as the eyelids forever touch. The 26 gun salute roars through the ears with the grievance sounds of Taps. Reminded, “It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag…” Ashes to ashes, Dust to dust, Back to the earth from whence we came. Goodbye my friend, Now my spiritual comrade. In your boots, I continue to march, until it’s my heavenly release of the warring pain.
